The love of Riesling has defined the tradition of this family business for geneartions – directly opposite the salt pans of Bad Dürkheim. The Pflügers, with their wines, which are usually developed separately by layer, represent the regional nuanced peculiarities of the various vineyards.
Since the beginning of the 1980s, Bernd Pflüger has been ecologically managing the 15 hectares between Ungstein and the salt pans. In recent years, experiments have been carried out on management according to biodynamic criteria. Almost at the same time as Alexander Pflüger took over the winery, there is the demeter (biodynamic) certification and beautiful new labels for the current vintages, which are a reference to a new experiment of the ploughmen.
Since 2011, a small proportion of the vineyards have been managed exclusively with 1-2 horsepower. All work, which otherwise took place with the support of really heavy equipment, is done on an experimental basis with horses. The soil is to be less compacted, the sensitive ecosystem with all its small organisms less ‘disturbed’. Part of the fertilization takes place in a very natural way, so to speak, by the way.
Since 2011, Alexander Pflüger has been a ‘top talent’ candidate for inclusion in the group of renowned VDP wineries, which is certainly a great result for the first years of his work at the winery.
